The Debt We Owed

I opened my mail recently and got a letter about a debt I owed. I called the source of the debt directly and to my surprise, I was told my balance is zero. I was a bit confused and also called the sender of the letter, which was tasked with collecting this debt.  Upon checking, I was told it appears the debt was cancelled.  Those four words lifted a burden from me and I was beside myself with relief.

Now I do not know the circumstances that led to this debt being cancelled but I do know how faithful God is. All I need to do is thank Him for His mercies and give glory and honor to his holy name.

This got me thinking about another debt we all owe. One that was cancelled once and for all while we were still in sin, (Romans 5:8.)

Jesus shed His blood and paid the price we could never pay. He didn't owe anything because He himself had not sinned. He stood in the gap for all of us to set us free from the burden and consequences of sin. It does not matter what we've done. All is forgiven!

I went on my knees immediately thanking God for the cancellation of this monetary debt, how much more thankful we should all be that the debt of sin we owed has been wiped clean. What we do owe is continuous thanks, praise, worship and adoration to Him who made this possible.

It brings to mind the well known hymn, "Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow." Take a moment to just sing this hymn and meditate on the words. Then bless His holy name.

 Colossians 1:13-14

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
