A Birth Foretold

It's amazing to read about the birth of Jesus, prophesied long before He was born. This is how our God does things. He promised a new covenant and told of how it would come about through the birth and death of Jesus. See (Isaiah 11) and (Isaiah 53.)

The old testament is filled with events being prophesied by the people whom God chose to use to convey His message. (Isaiah 7) tells of a virgin who would conceive and bring forth a Son and that His name shall be called Emmanuel. Isaiah 9:6 went even further telling of a child born and that the government would be on Him. That He is God himself, the everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.

(Luke 2) speaks of another baby that was to come. This baby was six months ahead of Jesus and his mother and the mother of Jesus were cousins. The angel of the Lord had appeared to Mary the mother of Jesus, and told her that she would conceive and also about her cousin Elizabeth conceiving. When Mary went to visit Elizabeth the baby in Elizabeth's womb began to kick with joy. That baby was John the baptist, who preached repentance. Telling about Jesus who was to come after him but is preferred before him.

The birth of Jesus and where He was born has been a source of strength and encouragement for me time after time. When I think of our Savior, born in a stable, on grass while at the same time being King of kings and Lord of lords, it gives me hope in situations where I may be facing some temporary challenges.

God almighty sending His only begotten Son into the world in this manner should be a reminder to all of us that life is much more than what we possess or our background. Jesus could have been born in a palace surrounded by luxury but God chose the lowly and humble way.

Though Jesus was not accepted by many as the Messiah, they tried to kill Him even as a baby. King Herod didn't like it when he heard that a baby would be born who would become King of the Jews, so he plotted to take His life. When Herod realized that the wise men he had tried to use to carry out his plot did not return, because God had warned them in a dream not to do so, He killed all the children two years and under. (Matthew 2) Just think about that! A king, slaughtering all those babies just to ensure that he kills the one he feels threatened by. Well nothing that he could have planned would have worked because God's plan will always prevail.

He wants to redeem us to Himself and He came to earth in the form of His son to do just that.

Luke 2:10-11

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
