I heard a song as if for the first time though I have sang along to it numerous times. The lyrics came alive to me word for word and I stopped singing to just listen. I listened in complete amazement as I thought about the grace I was afforded that I didn't deserve.
"If it had not been for the goodness of the Lord, I would be dead within my sins forever longing to be free." I would literally be dead in my sins. When I was not searching for Him, He had me on His mind. He knew His plans for my life and no matter how much of a mess I was, it didn't cause Him to turn. He does not change. He chased after me.
The extent of God's goodness jumped out at me as the song played. When I was at my worst doing things I shouldn't have been doing, He spared me from the consequences. He is love! He really does love us regardless of what state we are in because that is who He is. It has nothing to do with us.
Thank God for His mercies!

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy
