Early in His earthly ministry, Jesus had one primary calling: "Follow Me,"(Matt. 4:19) He called people of all backgrounds, all walks of life, and all skill sets, inviting them to join Him in His earthly mission. He was about to reveal God to the world and deliver mankind from sin's bondage.
And they followed. Not those who Jesus personally invited, but "great multitudes followed Him"(Matt. 8:1). Why? Because they had heard Him speak, they had watched Him perform miracle after miracle, and they came to know that He was the Son of God.
They came from every social and economic class. Women, men, young and old followed Him. To His fishermen disciples He simply promised to make them fishers of men.
Rather than bringing in fish, these men would learn what it takes to lead more people to follow Jesus Christ. His followers learned what He thought, heard what He said, and imitated what He did (Matt. 4:23).
As these people began to reflect and reveal Jesus, they in turn brought more followers to Him. We call ourselves many different terms today: Christian, believer, born-again, and evangelical.
But we all have the same job description: Christ follower.

Amen!
