The Glory Days

On a number of occasions I've heard a young person ask why they weren't told about something when they were growing up. This is usually a valuable life lesson, where they would express that had they known what could happen, they would have been able to make better decisions.

One young lady said every week she would receive a particular sum of money just for school. It was way more than what she needed for lunch so it would end up being spent on things that were not necessary. She said she wished she was taught about saving because she could use those funds now.

I made a decision to leave high school during fifth form to travel to another country. I did not continue my education in the country I migrated to at such a young age and there are days now when I would ask myself, why I was allowed to make such a decision. Travelling was a big deal especially where I'm from and you can bet I thought I knew what I was doing and was head strong about it.

A lot of us may have similar experiences in other areas of our lives. The question is, were we teachable in our youth when we made up our minds about what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it. Were we willing to listen to the advice of those who are more experienced or did we feel like,  "I got this!"

For those of us that have already gone through our glory days, how do we break through to that head strong phase of our own youth so they don't end up saying "I wish someone had told me."

I find it's more difficult these days to try to guide the young in a lot of areas, even where faith is concerned. You take them to church weekly but as they grow older and can make decisions for themselves, their presence at church becomes less. There are so many outside influences pulling them away. A lot of voices in their head coming from various platforms. It's only by God's grace through much praying, that will save them. We know they need to have their own relationship with the Lord. They are not saved by just going to church weekly.

We can only pray for their salvation and that the Lord himself will be their guide throughout this life.

Ecclesiastes 12:1

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”
