Humble Dwelling

Have you ever found that the simplest of things can sometimes bring the greatest joy? We were trekking through the property while on vacation looking for cherries and whatever else we could find and came across the humblest of dwellings. More than the dwelling was the peace that surrounded it including the person living there. The same kind of peace that is present whenever I look at the photos I snapped. There was a cool breeze which was welcoming because the Island is very hot. I thought to myself, a hammock would be perfect right here.

I just love looking at this perfectly imperfect little house with it's mismatched windows. There are other homes on the property that are much bigger and modern but this is the only one with this kind of grass and is suitably located just above the river.

We got  cherries, passion fruit and June plums. The land is very fruitful with pineapple, breadfruit, bananas, pumpkin, yams, oranges, sugar cane, mangoes and so much more. This is the kind of place you don't need to leave to get a meal. You can reap and eat.

I went back another day for a tour and was able to see the river down below. I also came across a litter of puppies and met their mom Bum. While on my tour I noticed a tall coconut tree with some holes in it. A tiny head was peaking through one of them. After a few minutes I had the opportunity to see a woodpecker arrive to feed her young that was in the tree. I remember hearing a pecking sound while I was in my room one night and wondering if it was a woodpecker.

Isn't it amazing how such simplicity can be so relaxing. You're spending your days outdoors away from screens planting and reaping and enjoying nature. Birds chirping, the cock crowing at the crack of dawn and the sound of the wind and running river water. 

There is so much to give God thanks for. He provided all of it and we should not take it for granted.
