When the Lord paints the sky it affirms His authority both in heaven and on earth. It declares His glory and reminds us that He is the only omnipotent God and His work speaks to who He is. There should be no doubt in our minds, when we look at all that He has created.
In many ways "mother nature" is getting the credit for God's handy work. The term "mother nature" is derived from the term "mother earth" which comes from a Greek tradition where ancient Greeks worshipped the earth goddess gaia. This goddess was credited with giving birth to the earth, sky and sea. A host of indigenous people worldwide developed their own versions of this concept.
Colossians 1:17 tells us that all things in heaven and on earth were created by God, visible and invisible. There is nothing that was made without Him (John 1:3). God's glory is His and His alone. He does not share His glory with any other (Isaiah 42:8).
There is no other God besides our magnificent creator who counts the stars and calls each of them by name ( Psalms 147:4).
