We Must Abide In The Vine

Time will suck the life out of any fruit, especially after it has been separated from the tree or vine. Apples, oranges, grapes and bananas go bad after it has been separated from their Source.

Jesus and His disciples lived in an agricultural area, and He wisely referenced important lessons around farming practices. Branches and vines are fruitful under the right conditions.

The christian life works in a similar way, we thrive in life and make a positive impact in the kingdom only if we remain connected to our Source. (John 15:1-2; 5-6) If we abide in Him, we'll produce fruit for His kingdom. However, if we unplug  from Jesus, we will wither and die.

The word ABIDE carries the connotation of complete attachment; it relates to ideas such as dwelling, staying, and settling in. It means sinking deep and growing roots.

Jesus wasn't describing a surface faith, He was talking about a sold-out commitment - a relationship where we depend completely on Him to accomplish His work through us.
